Coming Full Circle

There have been a lot of big changes in my life over the past year… New house, new baby and now a change in my career.

Produce For Kids

I’m the new marketing manger for Produce For Kids! I am so, so extremely excited to be involved with this organization and something I am so passionate about. While the Mamma Mia Blog’s content will remain mostly the same, I’ll be integrating healthy fun recipes and news about the health benefits of produce into the mix. Consider me your new resident produce expert! I’m thrilled to be part of the organization and hope to make my mark promoting the benefits of produce while raising money for worthy causes such as Childrens Miracle Network and PBS Kids.

Saying Goodbye

I’ve been absent from The Mamma Mia Blog for awhile. As some of you may know, my very dear grandmother passed away recently. It’s been a rough few weeks, and I’m finally starting to get myself back on track.

My grandma was an amazing woman who has  gone on to a better place. I don’t know what I’ll do without her. I could talk for days about the special memories I have of my grandmother. From my first day of preschool to the day I left for college, she was by my side. She was my rock. I confided in her things that I haven’t shared with anyone. It’s hard to say goodbye, but I am forever thankful for the many years we had together.

Yet another chapter of life begins…

Not So Breaking News

I’m not sure why I didn’t post about this sooner… Could be the craziness that has come along with finding, purchasing and moving into a new place. Not to mention all the other crazy goings on in my life. Or it could be the subconscious mental trick I’m playing on myself…. If I don’t announce I’m pregnant, the pregnancy will seem shorter? Yeah, yeah, I have issues. Haven’t we established this already.

So, it’s official, we are expecting and found out last Friday it’s another girl! Of course it would have been nice to add a boy to what will someday be a complete boiling pot of hormones, but hey, the man upstairs  has this all worked out.

There you have it. It’s public and announced and officiated. And, no… I don’t plan on changing the name of the blog. Not even planning to add a +1. We’ve all seen how that worked out in the past.

I have lots of post ideas stemming from my current “growing a human” gig. Be prepared for mucho prego thoughts ahead. First post… alternatives to dirty martinis while pregnant.

Here we go again!

New, But Not So New

Hi friends! I have fabulous news! The Mamma Mia Blog is finally settled into our new home at www.themammamiablog.com. Yes! Yes! It’s our own Web site. Seriously, I know I’m a little over the top, but let me have my moment.

Over the course of about a month, I have been working with an amazing blog guru Rob McGuire, who also built one of my favorite blogs Savvy Sassy Moms. Rob successfully migrated Mamma Mia from Blogger to WordPress. Kudos to Rob for a job well done and for putting up with me.

So, what does this mean for Mamma Mia? Well, we have a lot more functionality, which allows us to be BIGGER and BETTER… More giveaways, more guest bloggers, more travel, more fashion, more food ideas, more local fun and even more of my “take it or leave it” random life lessons.

To kick things off, I’ll  be blogging every day next week as we take beautiful  San Diego, California by storm on our family vacation. The Griswolds have nothing on us. Brace yourself San Diego, I’m coming back… and I have kids this time. Something we should do or see? Leave a comment and let me know.

Mamma Mia Brings Sexy and Provocative

Well, at least I got your attention with the sexy and provocative thing…

Here goes the intro blog… I’m a mom, and not a traditional mother… whatever that is anyway. I’m not married for one. Two, I live in a condo high-rise in the middle of downtown.
I didn’t have a video camera monitor when my daughter was a baby, and yep, you guessed it no baby wipe warmer… just used the wipes straight out of the container. I am okay with the five second rule and even extend it a few seconds at times. I realize there are germs in the world and I can’t protect my daughter from all of them. From what I understand, they actually build her immune system.
I encourage my daughter to climb higher on the rope climb at the playground and feel proud not scared. And, no my two-year-old is not accepted and enrolled at the town’s top private school for pre-k.
I have panic attacks about living in a house in a sub-division that looks like a replica of every other house. I love living walking distance to cafes, book stores, library and groceries. I live with the father of my child and live a married life, sans legal documents from the state of Florida. I work, love my job, love to write and love to dance. I take dance classes, and also participate in some of the greatest living room dance parties you’ll ever witness. My dance partners, daddy and baby, are training for a future career on dancing with the stars. I sometimes dance alone, but that’s a secret.
A park with a huge lake serves as my child’s backyard. Which, I believe is the best kind of backyard. There’s an amazing playground, lots of swans and turtles, a great walking path and the best part is that someone else is responsible for landscaping. (Coming from a beautiful rural area in Pennsylvania leaves me with no desire for a rural FL backyard. Rural FL just doesn’t do it for me, but I’m bias. Can I declare the beach as rural FL? I shall… Moving on… )
Amongst these things, and many others, that “normal” people might feel I’m “not doing right,” there are a lot of amazing things I have shared and plan to share with my daughter. She is the focal point of my life. I have so much fun watching her discover new things and learn about the world. It is my mission to encourage her to accept everyone for who they are and what they believe… to truly appreciate nature and our environment… to not be afraid of taking a big leap, to try new things, learn to love living healthy and to take her out from in front of a droning TV and into a real world of living and first-hand experience.
I could go on, and on, and on, but I won’t. I will save my rambling for future entries. My hopes for this blog are mostly to share experiences, entertain and perhaps provide and swap parenting and lifestyle tips with other people, traditional and non-traditional all the same… This blog does not discriminate. Can’t wait to have you as an avid reader of my tell-all, unedited mommy blog. (That last sentence was sexy and provocative, right?)
Now, on with the show…
